Cocktails and Samosas
Abraham & Thakore presents the new season collection in Mumbai for the first time this August at Lakme Fashion Week.
“Cocktails and Samosas” is a collection of sophisticated evening wear that consists of clean simple shapes and separates. Inspired by Eastern tradition of wrapping and tying, the Baku, the Kimono and the Sarong form some of the key shapes in this collection. A few new age churidars and salwars are also thrown into the mix.
As always, textiles are a key component of all Abraham & Thakore collections. In this case, a conversation between Rakesh Thakore and David Abraham that was triggered by the exhibition “A Search in Five Directions”, co-curated by Rakesh in January 2018, as a tribute to the textile legacy of the late Martand Singh, formed the starting point for the fabric story.
Inspired by the illustrated directories of different weaves and prints, the journey began in Benaras where subtle geometric textures in two shades of gold have been woven. With this, hand embroidered tussar and reverse hand cut patterns in silk are combined with textured sequined pieces to create a collection of separates capturing some of the eclectic influences in Indian Fashion today. Modern yet acknowledging tradition.
